Feminine Cards | Altenew AECP Final Challenge (Part 2)

Hello crafty friends,

Here's Part 2 of my AECP Final Challenge Project. I am creating a set 4 Feminine Cards.

A quick recap on Part 1 of this challenge where I created a set of 5 masculine cards. I kept my designs simple and cohesive with minimum products to create 5 simple card projects.

I had so much fun creating these floral cards. The first time I started using products by Altenew, was when I was in search for some floral stamps. I was introduced to a world of florals by Altenew and there was no looking back. Florals have become an integral part of my card making style. Be it intense coloring or just outlines, floral stamps and dies by Altenew are my go to products.

Just like we did for the masculine cards, I selected a few courses from the level 1 AECP course to accomplish this challenge.

Listed below are some of the many lessons that I used to create these cards.

  1. Clean And Simple Boutique Cards : I wanted to create striking focal points for my cards, using the same floral focal point. I managed to combine tips from this lesson to create a beautiful card front.

  2. Celebrations Stencil Techniques : I used the big floral image from the Flourishing Garden Stamp Set and the coordinating stencil along with some fun colors on my focal point.

  3. All About Layering 3 and 4 : The Flourishing Garden Stamp and the coordinating stencil is a layering set. I incorporated so many tips and tricks that Lydia Evans taught in the lessons.

  4. Easy Die Cutting : Just like we did for our masculine cards, for these floral cards too I used the cover plate die to create intricate backgrounds, partial stencilling and faux embossing. This by far is my favorite lesson among all the courses in Level 1.

  5. Easy Ink Blending : With a big bold floral image as the main focal point for all our cards, I decided to use the coordinating stencils and implement the techniques that I learnt to get perfect blend of inks for my cards.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's take a look at the set of cards that I have created for this assignment and then I will talk about each card in detail.

You will notice that I kept the color and basic design of these cards same and used very limited products to create my cards.

I used the big floral image from the Flourishing Garden and Alluring Orchids Stamp Set as my primary design and worked my way around it.

I also used the same color combination for all of my cards. Pinks and purples are my absolute favorite, so I decided to use it for all my projects.

For all of the sentiments, I used the Alluring Orchids Stamp and Die Set and the big bold sentiments from the Flourishing Garden Stamp Set.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's now take a closer look at each card.

Card #1

I began the projects with this gorgeous Circle Quilt Cover Die which I used for all the Masculine card projects.

I began by stamping this big floral focal point from the Alluring Orchids Stamp onto a sheet of white cardstock using my Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. I like to chose this ink as I was planning to ink blend using the SSS Pawsitively Saturated Inks. This would prevent any ink smudging.

I used the SSS Pawsitively Saturated Inks in the shade Rose, Watermelon and Guava to ink blend onto the stencils. I like to use the lightest shade from the ink trio when I have such layering stamps or stencils. I used a blend of yellows and oranges for the centers of my flowers. When it comes to inking up the leaves and stems on my floral images, I like to use the blend of Pine and Fields.

This image is pretty simple and has easy borders if you like fuzzy cutting. But I must admit, I am not very good at fuzzy cutting, so I prefer using dies to cut out my stamped image. But since I don't have the coordinating die set for this floral image, I used my Brother Scan n Cut machine which makes my work so much more easier. This is a very big image, so I had to cut a few flowers to make it fit onto an A2 size card base leaving space for our sentiment. I will be using the cut/scrap flowers on my second card.

Now that my focal point was ready, it was time to work on the card background. I used the Circle Quilt Cover Die to cut out a beautiful pattern for my card. Since I wanted to keep up with the pink and purple theme, I mounted this die cut panel onto an A2 size purple cardstock.

For my sentiment, I stamped and die cut the "Big Hugs" sentiment from the Flourishing Garden Stamp Set.

I assembled all the components of the card to create a gorgeous card front.

My cards are usually never complete without some shine. I used my Spectrum Noir Glitter Brush Pen to add sparkle on just the darker parts of the flower petals and also added shine to my sentiment.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Card #2

For my next card, I used the same background die to create a faux embossed look. I am obsessed with this technique where I can now use die to create an illusion of an embossing folder. This works not just with background dies, but is also fun with smaller floral or leaf dies. You can create a whole new pattern for your card fronts.

For my focal point, I used the leftover scrap piece of the flowers that did not fit on the first card panel. This is the best way to recycle your scraps.

Instead of mounting this floral focal point directly onto the faux embossed background, I decided to add a base to it. I used the Stitched Nested Dome Die by Kat Scrappiness to back my florals. This would also provide some space to add a sentiment.

Before I could adhere the dome panel, I added some Gold watercolor splatters onto the purple background.

I wanted to keep the sentiment very simple. I stamped the word "Hello" on the top left of the dome panel and adhered the florals diagonally opposite towards the bottom left corner for visual appeal.

I finished this card with some bling using the Prism Sequin from This Calls for Confetti.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Card #3

For this card, I used the floral image from the Flourishing Garden Stamp Set. This is a really big image and can be spilt into 2 cards. But I chose to cut the image into different sections to use it on my next project to create a completely different look.

I started by stamping the image using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. Unlike the previous 2 cards, where I kept the colors on my flowers pink and chose to have a purple background, for this card, I decided to use both these beautiful colors on my flowers.

I used the SSS Pawsitively Saturated Inks in the shades Amethyst, Orchid and Lilac for a gorgeous purple transition and Rose, Watermelon and Guava for the pinks.

I kept the centers of the flowers same with yellows and oranges (Mandarine, Pucker and Citrine) and used Pine and Field for the leaves.

Once I was done ink blending, I used to coordinating die to cut out the image. I didn't realize how big this image was until I tried to fit this into my die cutting machine.

I decided to mount this die cut image on the right hand corner of the card panel, so that I could leave some space for a sentiment strip.

Since I added both pink and purple on my flowers, I decided to keep the background simple and used some gold and copper metallic watercolor splatters on a white card penal.

I used foam tape to mount he focal point and the sentiments on this watercolor splatter background.

I trimmed the excess floral image that was hanging from the edge of this card panel and will be using it for the 4th card project.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Card #4

I am saving my favorite card for the last! This one is my absolute favorite in this set.

I used the leftover bits of the floral image from the previous card. There was not a lot of this stamped image to form a central focal point, so I decided to mount them on the corner edges of the cardstock panel.

I noticed a lot of gap between these images. So to add some interest, I die cut the Circle Quilt Die onto a white panel and used it as a stencil to add color and texture to that plain white centre.

I didn't cover the entire panel with this stenciled design and just added it to the space between the floral images. I thought this gave a beautiful character to our card front.

I then stamped the "Thank You" sentiment directly onto the card front using my Versafine Onyx Black Ink. I love this intense black ink.

I then placed my florals onto the edges of this panel and added some shine on the petals using my Spectrum Noir

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That was a closer look at all the 4 cards I created for this challenge. I had so much creating these beautiful floral cards.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The final part of this challenge was to use upcycled materials, either as a card design element or in the final packaging, for the set.

Again I the acetate gift boxes that I received last christmas. These were filled with some yummy bite-size candies and cookies.

To add some fun and texture to the front of this box, I used the Mega Succulent 3D Embossing Folder on a sheet of purple cardstock. I swiped my Amethyst Ink Pad over the raised area on this panel.

Just to bring the floral theme out, I added a little sentiment strip and some greenery.

Just like my card fronts, even this box needed some gold shine and sparkle. I added metallic gold watercolor splatters and tied a gold string around my sentiment strip.

I love how this box turned out. It perfectly fits all of my cards and also the matching envelopes. This I feel would be a perfect gift set this Holiday season.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had so much fun creating these cards and there was so much I learnt as I was creating these.

Also, a big thank you to the creators at Altenew for all the wonderful classes and tips and tricks to create beautiful projects.
